Theft. Stealing. Copying. Piracy. Cribbing. Whatever the hell you call it, it is PLAGIARISM.
This issue has gone FAR ENOUGH. People, you need to stop. Okay. I’m bringing up this issue again, because it has happened to me. It has happened to the people I care about. It has happened to people that I admire. But plagiarism is a crime, it is illegal and in case you haven’t graduated to the real world, is grounds for expulsion from universities around the globe, and fines and jailtime if you tried to submit it for work.
Just because you’re copying fanfiction, doesn’t make it any less wrong. We the authors may not have the grounds to sue you or anything since we don’t even own the topic that we’re writing about, but we can and we will call you out on it. Okay. Even though we borrow the characters and the universe, as that is the nature of fanfiction, we work hard on creating stories.
We pour our hearts and our efforts into something that we enjoy creating and enjoy sharing with the readers. We thrive on knowing that someone enjoyed reading what we wrote just as much as we enjoyed writing it. And when you take the credit for that, not only does that make you a pathetic human being, but it hurts to see you getting compliments that you did not earn. It hurts that people actually believe that you came up with the idea, which you didn’t, spun it into words, which you didn’t, and created something out of it, which you fucking didn’t.
Plagiarism not only shows your unoriginality, but it blatantly says that you are nothing but an attention whore who has no skill, and when you are, WHEN, not if, you are caught, you just end up looking like a fool with no credibility. And please, for the motherfucking love of God, do not insult my intelligence by telling me that the ideas were “coincidentally similar”. The first time I was plagiarised, the author had the fucking nerve to send me a PM, and this is verbatim, what she wrote:
ive went through ur writing journal and realized that *gasps* three of our fics have very similar themes. yours are better in my opinion though..my point is,i would very much like to tell you that i did not plagerize. im sorry if you think otherwise,i just thought i ought to tell u.
I checked the dates on her fics, all of which had been posted after mine. What really pissed me off about one of the three fics that she plagiarised (this was a sadder fic of mine that was copied) was, she wrote an author’s note saying how much it “pained her to write her babies unhappy.” Please, bitch, you didn’t even write it. You took my idea, switched some words around and called it your own.
I called her out on it. This author has since shut down her livejournal, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she had just moved elsewhere.
Now you may be wondering why I’m bringing up an incident that happened over six months ago. This is because, not only was I plagiarised AGAIN, on the very same fic back in October, but recently a couple of my friends have been plagiarised as well. The same person who plagiarised me plagiarised another friend of mine, and she was her FRIEND. They aren’t speaking anymore, even though the girl who plagiarised apologized. Her excuse? She wasn’t aware that she was plagiarising. I’m not mentioning my friend’s name because she’s said she wants to put this behind her, but this is happening way too often to ignore.
And then more recently, which is still yet to be solved in its entirety, Andi, I’m sure a lot of you know her, zaboomafoo76@tumblr, recently found more than one person who had translated her fics even after she had already told them no. She knows that a lot of people do allow their fics to be translated, but she is adamant that because she speaks English, her fics are to remain in English to prevent any plagiarism issues. Like this one. She doesn’t want anyone to repost her fics anywhere, regardless of language. But these people took her fics and translated them without her permission, even after having the gall to ask her first, and then to top it off, pasted “ORIGINAL, DO NOT TAKE OUT” in the header.
And finally, author Cheonsaa, or quickable at livejournal, has since moved all of her fiction to a blogspot account with a domain name, so that she can disable right-clicking to prevent copy/pasting. This is because she had such an issue with plagiarism that this is the option she chose.
And it’s your fault, plagiarisers.
Here’s my message to you. STOP. STEALING. OTHER PEOPLE’S WORK. I don’t care what kind of sob story you have to offer — you weren’t aware that you were plagiarising, that it’s only a coincidence that they’re so similiar, that you just want to share the work with a wider population — It’s STEALING. And it’s WRONG. And I’m fucking tired of wasting my breath on you.
Also, to the readers out there: if you see plagiarism, even if you only suspect it, say something. Stand up, and speak out. Contact the author and say, “hey, I read something that I thought was fishy… maybe you should check it out.” If the author feels like it’s not their work, no harm done. But imagine the heartbreak if it were one of your works that were plagiarised, and you found out people knew and had said nothing.
Thanks to these assholes, people stop writing. I very nearly did. For a while, I swore I would never post another fic to share, that I would only send it to the people I trust the most. It hurts too much to see something that you pour your heart and soul into be claimed by someone else, and to see someone else take the glory. I hope you realize just how pathetic you are. And when these authors stop writing, and their readers ask them why, you should know that it is your fault.
Is it worth it? Is your empty win worth all the hearbreak you cause?

And SJ was behind TVXQ, who are awesome (I really like them I admit). I was all like: “Damnit we have some tough competition”
I did my daily vote (including my daily SJ vote), and when I went to see the ratings (which was 5 seconds later) SJ was first again

DAMN WE ELFS WORK FAST! xD. Obviously I’m cheering for Super Junior like a madwoman, but if TVXQ beats us in that category I guess its not that bad since they’re also amazing and their fans are really nice (but still SJ for the win!!).
Anyways we ELFS are devoted as hell :p

I support homosexuality. That doesn’t automatically make me gay.
I know I’m not the girliest of girls my age. I’ve never had a boyfriend. I’ve never had sex. I’ve only been kissed once in my life and that was a little peck. Honestly, the minute I get around a guy that isn’t my close friend I shut down because I’m so awkward. I don’t wear makeup. My usual attire are jeans and a hoodie. I can’t walk in heels. I can’t remember the last time my hair was longer than my shoulders. The only time I wear jewelry other than a simple necklace or my class ring is to a special event. I’m pretty much the epitome of a tomboy.
That does NOT make me a lesbian.
I hate meeting new people sometimes because when it gets on the topic of dating, they always ask the question.
“So do you have a boyfriend?”
“Nope, I’ve never had a boyfriend.”
And then there’s a double-take, and a head-to-toe once-over. And then that look.
“Oh. So you have a girlfriend then.”
NO! I want to scream. I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t swing that way. Don’t judge me based on what I look like, what I act like. It’s not fair. I’d like to think that I’m just not easy, that I have standards. I’ve never tried dating because I don’t have time right now — I’m a full time college student pursuing a degree on top of working to pay the bills. I’m only 19, and I know I have an entire lifetime ahead of me to find someone. So I’m waiting to date. But is it really that surprising that I’ve never had a boyfriend? Do I really act so tomboyish that when I say that, you immediately think I’m a lesbian?
What hurts the most is, sometimes it’s not only strangers. My little brother is gay, and he came out to my family about a year ago. At first my parents were against it, but I stood up for him, nearly to the point of having a shouting match with my dad. Eventually they accepted it, but shortly after that my grandpa was visiting. I overheard him talking to my mom about that day and he asked her, “Well, she’s not gay, is she?” I was like, “Really? Because I’m supportive of my little brother and I’m not a fucking homophobe, that automatically makes me a lesbian? Thanks a whole fucking lot, Grandpa.”
And then I’m always getting cracks on my sexuality because I find pretty boys attractive. That doesn’t mean I like a guy who dresses in drag. Excuse the hell out of me if I find that a super hairy man is a huge turn-off for me. I’ve had people, on more than once occasion when I mention a guy I think is hot, tell me, “Eww, he looks like a girl. You might as well date a chick if that’s the kind of man you find hot.”
Now, please don’t take this as a rant against homosexuality. It’s not, it’s the farthest thing from it. I’m insulted, not by the fact that I’m being called a lesbian, but by the fact that people make these assumptions without second thought, and by the fact that when they make these assumptions they follow it with a ‘holier-than-thou’ fucking attitude. Like they would find me disgusting if I were gay. I’m angry at people making assumptions based on looks and first impressions. I’m angry at straight people who have this misconception that if you support homosexuality you’re obviously a homosexual, or at least bi. I’m angry at people who make stupid off-hand comments without facts, hell, without even thinking of what they’re saying before they say it.
I’m a girl and I like guys. I support the guys who like girls. I support the guys who like guys. I support the girls who like girls. I support the people who like both. Got a problem with it? Build a bridge and get the fuck over it. Quit making quick judgements.
